Explanation
Founded in 1970 by a displaced North Korean monk named Kim Hae Geun in hopes of seeking national reconciliation, Waujeongsa Temple is nestled among the magnificent peaks of Yeonhwasan Mountain. The temple is home to approximately 3,000 Buddha statues, including the twelve-meter-long Reclining Buddha in Yeolbanjeon Hall, and Buldu, an eight-meter-high Buddha's head statue located at the temple's entrance. The temple also features unique Buddha statues from across Asia, including the Stone Tower of Unity, constructed with stones from Buddhist holy sites, and a jade Ascetic Statue of Shakyamuni.
