Saekhyeon Tunnel (색현터널)

Saekhyeon Tunnel, spanning 423 meters in length, was first opened in 1939 and functioned as part of the Gyeongchun Line railway up until 2010. After the railway line was rerouted, the tunnel found a new purpose as a section of the Bukhangang Bike Path. It has also earned the nickname "Moss Tunnel" due to the moss that has grown around its entrances. The tunnel, especially known for its distinctive round entrances, has become a favored location for photography enthusiasts.

Tomb of Sin Sunggyeom (장절공신숭겸장군묘역)

Tomb of Sin Sung-gyeom (posthumous epithet: Jangjeolgong), a founding contributor of the Goryeo Dynasty Sin Sung-gyeom made a great contribution to the foundation of Goryeo by expelling Gung Ye and crowning Wang Geon (later, King Taejo) as a king in 918, together with Bae Hyeon-gyeong, Hong Yu, and Bok Ji-gyeom. When Taejo of Goryeo was surrounded by the army of Gyeon Hwon (founder of Later Baekje) at the Palgongsan Battle in Daegu, Sin exchanged armor with Taejo’s armor to disguise himself as the king and died. The enemy thought that he was Taejo and beheaded him, and Taejo made his head with gold in sorrow and held a funeral for him. The Tomb of Sin Sung-gyeom consists of three mounds, which are said to have been a measure that Taejo took lest the golden head should be stolen. The location of the tomb is regarded as one of the best propitious sites for a grave in Korea, based on geomancy. Surrounded by pine trees, this site overlooks downtown Chuncheon. The tombstone, shrine, and memorial stone were built around the tomb. This tomb was designated as Gangwon-do Monument No. 21 under the title “Sin jangjeolgong Myoyeok (Tomb of Sin Sung-gyeom),” while the memorial stone, bearing the story of the Palgongsan Battle and Sin Sung-gyeom’s performance, was designated as Gangwon-do’ Tangible Cultural Heritage No. 155.

After Gyeongchun Subway Line opened, the old train tracks turned into a rail bike park. Gangchon Rail Park starts next to Gimyujeong Station and offers various attractions including large book photo zone, café, zipwire and more. The total course of the rail bike is 8.5 kilometers long with 6 kilometers on rail bike and last 2.5 kilometers on a train. Most of the track is downhill for an easy ride with a beautiful view of mountains, fields, and a river. With an additional fee, visitors can enjoy the VR experience section of the ride. After riding the final section on a train along the Bukhangang River, riders will take the shuttle bus back to the original location. There are also a 7.2-kilometer-long Gyeonggang Railbike that starts from Gyeonggang Station at a separate charge.

KT&G Sangsangmadang Chuncheon Stay, near Uiam Lake in Gangwon-do, is a cultral space with "art" and "stay". Embracing Uiamho Lake, KT&G Sangsangmadang Chuncheon is a cultural complex that consists of the Art Center and the Stay building. The Art Center was established by remodeling the previous Chuncheon Children’s Center, while the Stay building was built by remodeling the previous Gangwon-do Sports Center. With an open view of the lake at the front, the Art Center is known for its construction design by Korea’s master architect, late Kim Swoo-geun. When viewed from the sky, the Art Center, which was built with Kim’s unique construction technique, resembles a butterfly sitting on the lakeside. Opened as the Children’s Center in 1980, the building was abandoned for a while and then was re-born as KT&G Sangsangmadang Chuncheon in 2014. Sangsangmadang, as part of the social contribution and restoration program of KT&G, aims to support various cultural and arts activities and offer the public an opportunity to appreciate arts and culture. While keeping its original frame of the construction in consideration of its architectural value, KT&G Sangsangmadang Chuncheon provides diverse amenities such as a theater, gallery, cafe, art shop, and so on. It has also a charming outdoor space. It has an outdoor stage near Uiamho Lake, and the walking path and the bicycle path are available in front of the stage. In addition, the Forest Experience Center for Children behind the outdoor stage provides diverse interesting attractions.

Chuncheon Myeongmul Dakgalbi (춘천명물닭갈비)

Chuncheon Myeongmul Dakgalbi, a specialty restaurant renowned for dakgalbi (spicy stir-fried chicken), is situated near the scenic Bukhangang River and Uiamho Lake. Chuncheon is celebrated as the city of dakgalbi. Their signature dish features spicy seasoned chicken stir-fried with vegetables, tteok (rice cake), and sweet potatoes on an iron plate, offering an exquisite flavor. Located at the Uiam lakeside, the Animation Museum, which is Korea’s only animation museum, has two floors. On the first floor there is the dimensional exhibition hall introducing the origin, birth, and development of the animation, the kinds of animation, and the Korean animation history, as well as the reproductions of a large robot Taekwon V, and the old comic store. The second floor consists of the world hall displaying the animation trend for each country, diverse animation experience activities, and a special exhibition hall. Visitors can experience making sound effects for an animated film using various tools and dubbing a famous animated film such as Run Honey, and Cloud Bread. The Toy Robot Studio, located next to the Animation Museum, provides various experience programs related to robots. Its interesting robot programs are Spider Robot, Mission Robot, Robot Avatar, Robot Dance, Drone Experience, and so on. Both the Animation Museum and the Toy Robot Studio are equipped with convenient facilities for visitors with the background of Uiamho Lake, such as a cafe and souvenir shop, which sells animation characters and toys. The outdoor space also displays cute animation characters on the lawn where children can play freely.

The Literary Village of Kim You Jeong (김유정문학촌)

The Literary Village of Kim You Jeong was established on the site of the birth home of Kim, in order to commemorate Kim You-jeong who left various great short story novels of Korea’s modern times, such as Spring, Spring (1935), and Camellia Flower (1936). It was opened in 2002, consisting of the Birth Home of Kim You-jeong, Memorial Hall, foot-operated mortar, etc. Then, in 2016, various facilities, such as Kim You-jeong’s Story House, outdoor stage, experience room, and Nangman Nuri were additionally built across the Literary Village of Kim You-jeong. The current birth home with the square-shaped structure, which is the typical hanok (traditional Korean house) style, was restored according to historical research by Kim’s relatives and students. The Memorial Hall provides information and displays artifacts related to Kim You-jeong’s life and works. Kim You-jeong’s Story House shows three-dimensional exhibits and videos related to his works and life. Various sculptures made with the themes of Kim’s short story novels are placed throughout its outside area. It is recommended to walk along the Sille Story Road after visiting the Literary Village. The Sille Story Road is a trail, which is a literature tour, consisting of the places that appeared in Kim’s novels with the background of his hometown.
