Set in a real Parisian “Studio for Portrait Masks” that existed just after World War I, Le Masqueis a poignant original musical based on history. These studios created custom facial masks for soldiers disfigured in war, restoring not only their faces but also their dignity.
The story follows Léonie, a studio employee who has lived with prejudice due to her disability, and Frédéric, a soldier who has lost his will to live after his face was wounded. Tasked with making his mask, Léonie faces resistance from Frédéric, who has abandoned all hope. In the process of persuading him, she confronts her own hidden scars.
Exploring both visible and invisible wounds, the work shows how two broken souls find comfort and courage through one another, delivering a universal message: it is ultimately people who can heal people.
