Premiered in early 2022, the production received rave reviews for “ushering in a new horizon in musical theater” and ranked second in the audience-voted “Audience’s CHOICE” category, leading to its encore performance. It depicts the story of the Brontë sisters — Charlotte and Emily Brontë, 19th-century British authors famous worldwide for their classic novels like “Jane Eyre” and “Wuthering x_heights”, as well as their brother Branwell, who dreamed of becoming a painter.
The play begins with an interview scene featuring Charlotte, the only sibling who survived and succeeded as a writer. Through a documentary-style narrative, it sheds light on the childhood of the four siblings who created their own world despite difficult circumstances, and portrays their fierce struggle to overcome the poverty and oppression they constantly faced.
The explosive rock-and-roll melodies spanning diverse genres like folk rock, pop punk, and hard metal echo their rebellious spirit against the oppression of their times and express their inner cry. Through their lives, the production raises the question, “Is a life without success truly meaningless?” leaving the audience with profound empathy and a lasting, indelible impression.
